Seyed Mostafa Kia and Elena Kalinina attended Summer Course "Regularization Methods for Machine Learning". The course was organized in Genova at the Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics and Sytems Engineering (DIBRIS), at the University of Genova. It took place from June 30th to July 4th.

Dr. Georg Langs is Assistant Professor in the Computational Imaging Research Lab (Department of Biomedical Imaging and Image-guided Therapy, Medical University of Vienna). During his visit to NILab he held a presentation entitled "Correspondence revisited - decoupling anatomy and function in neuroimaging". There, he presented his findings about alignment of functional features across different brains.
As the first PhD student (24th cycle) holding the interdisciplinary research grant "Machine Learning for Neuroscience" Susanne Greiner successfully defends her PhD thesis by the title of "Bayesian Inference for Brain Decoding" in front of the international defence committee. The thesis will be soon available online in the PhD theses electronic library, University of Trento.
European Study Group on Cardiovascular Oscillations (ESGCO) organizes every two years a conference to foster interdisciplinary discussions among physicists, engineers, physiologists and clinicians about physiological states and transitions, regulatory mechanisms and clinical implications of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular oscillations in all their forms. This year the workshop was held in Trento.
Eleftherios Garyfallidis is a Post-Doc researcher at the Sherbrooke Connectivity Imaging Laboratory, University of Sherbrooke, Canada. The first day of his visit he gave a presentation about the Diffusion Imaging in Python (Dipy) project and its new functionalities. He mainly focused on new methods for tractography reconstruction e.g. Constrained Spherical Deconvolution (CSD) and Simple Harmonic Oscillator based Reconstruction and Estimation (SHORE).
"Concepts, Actions and Objects (CAOS)" is an annual workshop, organized by Mind and Brain Center in Rovereto. At the workshop, Mostafa Seyed Kia presented a poster entitled "Hierarchical Multivariate Hypothesis Testing Provides More Sensitivity in MEEG Data Analysis". Andrea Bertana also participated in the poster session of the workshop. His poster was entitled "Assessing functional hyperaligment of FMRI data through different sample sizes and cognitive tasks".
Mostafa Kia participated in the Machine Learning Summer School (MLSS) in Reykjavik, Iceland, from April 25 to May 4, 2014.
DecMEG 2014 Competition starts on April 21st and will be finished on July 27th. So far it has 2142 entries and 170 participants. The competition baseline has been improved by 13 percent on the public leaderboard which can be considered as a great achievement. We are looking forward with good anticipation to have more participants in remaining days alongside significant scientific achievement.
Vittorio Iacovella's paper entitled "Functional Hyperalignment of Resting State FMRI Sessions Driven by Autonomic Activity" has been accepted for presentation at the Pattern Recognition in Neuroimaging conference. The conference will take place in Tubingen from June 3rd to June 6th 2014.
