Vittorio Iacovella participated in FBK Mobility Programme 2014 (FMP2014) by submitting the project: "Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of naturalistic stimuli: standard pipelines for analysis", in collaboration with Psychoinformatics Lab - Otto Von Guericke University (Magdeburg, DE). He spent 3 months (March - May 2015) as a visiting postdoc in Magdeburg.
During his visit he was mainly involved in two activities:
- Open Dataset are public collections of data thought to be accessed and (re-)used by everyone. This guideline shapes all the steps of everyday scientific research routine: from data collection to data management and analysis. During his visit, V. Iacovella learned about standard ways to systematically arrange files and metadata. He was also introduced to data versioning using specific version control tools.
- Studyforrest.org initiative includes many kinds of data. Some of them, like FMRI ones, are well-known and their management and analysis is consolidated in everyday research routine. Some others, like physiological data or eye - movements, are currently less used and their relevance for cognitive neuroscience is, in some cases, still debated. During his visit, V. Iacovella dealt with raw eye - movements data: by using an existing python library, cili, he implemented several methods to extract information from raw eye - movements data and characterize their most important features.
